Stayed nearby to start the day at the Castle and then keep heading south. Learned that you need to make a reservation ahead - but hit the goldmine with an open spot and hopped on the bus. A lovely 5 mile ride up the side of another mountain.....on a bus.
No words for this experience. Not sure I can even think of any other tour of a place that had so many stories, history, relics and visuals. Crazy amazing.
We had an enjoyable tour guide but may remember the little guy that always was right behind her, staying in the designated places we were told to stay and carrying this toy snake in his hand all along the way. One happy mother for sure....his brother was almost as good and regimented as him.
As I recall it has somewhere in the range of 147 rooms - we only saw 6 inside rooms if you count the pool under the tennis court - and still was on overload when I got in the bus.
Great chat on the ride down with a guy who has worked for 2 Minnesota companies and come to the cold. We did have a moment where the bus went up on the curb on a curve and even this CA driver thought we were doomed - LOL. All good after that - I wasn't the only one thinking all these curves are a test of nerves.
At one time the Castle and the surrounding 250,000 acres was its own zoo/animal sanctuary. Like everything in the house - things from around the world. I caught another part of the lasting zebra heard as I started to head south from the Castle.
