Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada - Wandering the shore of Lake Superior

 

Woke up to a cool 55F and sunny day.  Perfect morning to walk along the shore and around Thunder Bay.  Definitely a city with a great history and story.  Like much of northern Minnesota its worn and tired but has great bones.  

An interesting spot for sure - a community of over 100,000 and has so many similarities to Duluth on a smaller scale.  

Got up to about 65F when I left from the shore.  As I stopped for gas on the edge of town up the hill it was 78F.  Quite a range.  And it kept fluctuating up and down as I made my way down along the coast.  

Winnipeg Manitoba to Thunder Bay Ontario - An adventure for sure

Really had no idea what I had signed up for on the drive from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay.  Crossing the top of Lake of the Woods along the way.  

I truly got it all - wow.  Started out the same way I came in to Winnipeg with long, flat vistas and beautiful yellow fields.  Eventually, the terrain turned to a bit hillier and more pines, birches and aspens.  And there was water everywhere.  Eventually we hit the granite, the water and the steep winding roads.  It was all stunning.  

It was also a road of expressways, 4 lanes, 3 lanes and mostly 2 lane roads and plenty of other vehicles to make it interesting.  

Started cool in Winnipeg and then landed back in the hot wave in the middle and back to cool when I arrived on the shores of Lake Superior.  A great night sitting on the water and finding some fun conversation.

After arriving to peak heat and humidity, I expected much the same for the AM walk.  The cold front arrived and it was cool and crisp - didn't get home looking like I already took my shower. 

Captured a big loop this AM around the rivers and the central loop - plenty to see and take in for sure.  An interesting city to be back to 50 years late - of course there is nothing that looks familiar.  

Got off early with a full day ahead.
