Wayzata, St Bonifacius, Saint Paul MN - A great start to the 4th of July 2011
The weather was on the edge of intolerable on Thursday and Friday and then the front passed through and the long weekend started with an almost perfect Saturday.
A large group of us started in Wayzata and took the trail to St Bonifacius - mostly for the wonderful cafe and the egg sandwiches! A nice ride built on an old rail line that runs right through many parts of Lake Minnetonka.
A bbq to finish off the evening. Eric was going for "high art" with the camera - will leave it to you to be the judge of that. Lots of laughs and we had to stop talking about Carly when she arrived a bit later from Sleepy Hollow - aka Sleepy Eye MN.
And the DeMarkeys arrived as well and gathered with them on Sunday. Finished off the holiday with bbq and Mary jumping in the pool at Rogers.....oh yeah and the Marcarena....oops I forgot the camera on the 4th!!!!!!
Saint Paul MN - Wild and strange several months
About 5 months ago I jumped in to a whole new work adventure. It has been great fun and a whole new world of learning for me to grasp and incorporate in to my day to day assignments. It is another young, fast growing company - I seem to like those. Everyone loves being there - can't help but like going in to that world every day.
About the same time I started the new work my car also decided it was time to challenge me as well. Together we went on a 3 month adventure that made me get agile on the transit network in the Twin Cities. I spent much more time on buses, trains, loaners and with friends than in my vehicle. Based on the time and money it appears to be mostly a new car - at least from the inside. Off to Colorado soon...you may hear from Mom and me if we are sitting on the side of the road near Ogallala Nebraska.
And to add one more piece of chaos to the mix, I have always wanted new curbs in front of my house. They were pretty much eroded and worn out when I moved in 22 years ago. I was all excited that project came to be in 2010. Unfortunately with state funding issues etc, yes they were going on before the shutdown, it got started late so we had chaos from August to November in 2010. And then off to the races again starting in mid-April. It has been a mess. One weekend, with the street all torn out, and lots and lots of rain we had cars coming home late on Saturday night and just sinking right in to the axel - what fun!
At last I think I can see the end of the road project as well. We have one layer of asphalt down! It may end before Thanksgiving.
But recently the sun has been out and we have been riding on Saturday morning - one regular and consistent activity in a year of many many things up for grabs.
Saint Paul MN - Hit and miss for biking so far this season
It has been a slow start for the bike group this year. We couldn't quite get to spring and then when it was supposed to be nice the weather patterns got set on Saturday morning rains - that sometimes lasted the entire weekend.
We got a few rides in here and there - and there were those that were happy to see rain and a few of us that tried to get in our ride before the clouds broke - one group here.
Looks like our next battle will be the heat - seem to be on overload with that - but we get off early.....so no excuses Carly!
I am missing the ride this weekend but finally get caught on the blog for my loyal followers...I found out there are a few over the last few weeks that I have been dragging on getting my pics and bad stories posted. I will try to improve......
Summer in the City - Thursday night dance night in downtown Saint Paul
Every Thursday night throughout the summer the Ordway is sponsoring a street dance in downtown St Paul. Each week it is a different style of music presented live. I stopped by to check it out on a recent ride - will have to see if we can get a group out to enjoy an evening out near the Ordway. I arrived before the main event started but once it did people filled the street.
It reminded me of the night we ran across a group of young people dancing in a park in downtown Vilnius Lithuania in 2008.
Despite all the efforts of the Neighborhoods, City Council and Mayor to try to find ways to keep us from being able to enjoy the outdoors during the good "outdoor" months this wonderful event has some how slipped through the denial system. Enjoy it while you can.
Stillwater MN - Joey Sandor graduates...and heads off to North Dakota
Joe drew a great crowd of family and friends to celebrate his finishing up at Stillwater High School.
The kitchen was fully staffed and was ready to go early and kept everyone entertained.
