Montreal Quebec Canada - Down the hill and back to put up my feet

 

The wander back down the hill was still sunny but the wind could have blown me through the park.  And everyone was out - last chance before the cool weather arrives.  

Montreal Quebec Canada - Saint Joseph Oratory

 

The church on the hill - you can see it from any direction you come in to Montreal.  

Back when I was 17 we made a school trip to Quebec City and Montreal.  A visit to Saint Joseph Oratory was part of the trip.  The most memorable part of the trip back then was they had a "relic" - the heart of the founder.  Saw bones at another church in Quebec.  I can report the heart is still on show.  

Lots of construction going on in the front to create a much grander entrance and exhibit areas.  I definitely got my exercise walking up the hill after a long trek to get to the temporary entrance.  

It is fascinating to start at the "original" church and sitting just across the street is the beautiful huge shrine that is now the focus.

Toronto is built along Lake Ontario.  Montreal is on the Saint Lawrence Seaway.  The city started on the river and grew up the side of a mount.  And expanded in all directions from there.  

The wind came up and cleared the skies and the day started at 66F.  By early evening we were edging on 40F and the wind was blowing strong.
