Saint Paul MN - Back from break and ready for studies...and for winter to be over!

Break is over and time for classes to get started once again.  Petar did California with his sister.  Davide headed home to Italy and off to Vienna for New Years Eve...and wasn't telling any stories just saying WILD.  And Danny chose to hang in Saint Paul and enjoy our record setting winter of snow and cold...and he seemed to survive. 

Saint Paul MN - 2011 Birthday celebrating begins

Jim, Mike and have gotten together for years and years at the beginning of each year to get caught up and celebrate another birthday.
We were all born the same year and celebrate our birthdays in an 30 day window. We have the honor of falling in the middle of the wonderful group called baby boomers.
Once again we gathered, with other good friends, and marked number 56. The start of another very good year...

Awassa Ethiopia - Dawit's first report

Dawit has arrived and is getting settled in. He has friends that live there so quickly getting in the local groove.
Hard to imagine he can be missing Minnesota when he is a quarter mile from Lake Awassa and it is warm enough to shower outside everyday.
We all may be making reservations for a visit sooner than later...

Saint Paul MN - And now the cold

The sun came out this morning but when you start at -18F it takes a lot of heat to get to 0. And that is about where we got for the day. Some breezes made it all the colder with the wind chill.
We we were lucky. The temperature before the wind chill a few hours north was -46F - and it was only the fifth coldest on record!
The only pictures worth catching in this weather are those that can be seen in the strangest wear to keep themselves warm or running in to the gym in shorts and t-shirts. Not worth seeing again and again.
We all anxiously await the warm up to 20F early next week - will feel like a heat wave no doubt.

Saint Paul MN - New Years Eve 2010

Getting to the new year was an all out adventure in Minnesota late 2010.  After getting through the mega-snow storms and getting dug out.  We entered the deep freeze, had a warm up to 45F, fog, puddles everywhere, rain, rain, some ice pellets and then a quick jump to -25F windchills.
Fortunately for us in the Twin Cities the worst of the most recent rain and snow mostly went around us so a crowd gathered to remember 2010 and celebrate the oncoming 2011.  Great expectations for all in the new year ahead.
Not a wild event but food and wine covered the tablecloth and Mary and Wayne were wearing the decorations...
